Will post again when I am around technology long enough. Until then, I will leave you with my channeling of John Lennon:
Imagine there’s no power.
It’s easy if you try.
Power lines below us.
Phones about to die.
Imagine all the people
Unplugged for today.
You may say I’m medieval
But I’m not the only one.
I used to watch Breaking Amish
But today I live as one.

Welcome to life on the Gulf Coast post-Ike, post-Rita, post-Katrina. Believe me, I feel your pain – as do the Floridians, Louisianans, etc.
I hope life begins to get sorted, and soon – although “soon” is a relative term, and it’s going to take weeks rather than days. I will say this – from my perspective, Bloomberg’s decision to go with the NY marathon looks like worse than idiocy, and the refusal of non-union help from other states in Jersey looks even worse.
I’m just glad to see your post, and to have heard from the other folks I know in the area. I must say – I’m glad my elderly aunt who lived on West 16th isn’t there any longer, and I hope the others who are there (and on Staten Island, in Queens, along the Jersey shore and such) are cared for.
Carry on!

Fortunately, the refusal of non-union help didn’t happen.

We’re all heartened by the help from other states. My sister knows a trucker who has seen convoys coming our way to help!
Thanks for your well wishes and I’ll be back online soon!

Thanks for the update – I’m especially glad because some crews from our Centerpoint energy headed out there, and we’re a non-union state. As sometimes happens, personal opinion could have been mistaken for public policy – so glad it got straightened out!

Just checking in. I hope you’re continuing to do fine. I’ve been keeping an eye on the weather, and hoping this next nor’easter veers away or doesn’t cause cascading problems.
It still looks pretty bad over there. I know it takes time to get things back in shape, but it seems like people aren’t getting the help they need re: water, food, shelter and so on. Of course, the information we’re getting here might be far from complete.

Thanks for checking in on me! I actually got power Friday night, and most everyone in my town got their power back by today. I haven’t posted because my ex called and told me he has liver cancer and I’ve been unable to write about it or anything else.

Oh, my heavens. I’m so sorry. I’ll save my questions and when or if you want to write about it you can. In the meantime, I’ll keep him and you in my prayers.
