The year ends heavily. Heavy foods, heavy clothing, heavy indoor overheated air. Carrying heavy bags to and from the car. A feeling that I’m carrying the weight of the year on my back.

Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote:

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.

Couldn’t the same be said for the year?

Ralph never had the pleasure of my acquaintance. But he has “no doubt” that I made some blunders and that I did what I could. He knows absurdity is part of the deal, too.

Farewell, 2010 nonsense! Hello, 2011 nonsense!
